2011 a winner again
Country Valley Natural Yoghurt has won Champion Yoghurt at the 2011 Cheese and Dairy Produce Show. The awards for this superb yoghurt just keep coming. Containing only milk and culture and made with loving care this product is proving to be a constant winner.
We've done it again in 2010
Country Valley has once again won a Gold medal for its natural yoghurt and for the first time a Gold medal for its plain yoghurt at the 2010 Cheese and Dairy Produce Show. But the big news is that we won Champion Yoghurt for the natural yoghurt AGAIN. It was very exciting when we attended the awards lunch last week and the announced the winner. Well worth the wait until the last group of accouncements.
Update on our Natural Yoghurt
Winner of the 2008 President's Medal
After winning the Grand Champion Yoghurt at the 2008 Cheese and Dairy Produce Show our product was one of six nominees for the Royal Agricultural Society's President's Medal. This medal is hugely prestigious and we were up against such products as:
King Island Dairy for their Bass Strait Blue Cheese
Evans and Tate,WA, for their 2005 Reserve Shiraz
2006 Shadowfax Chardonnay from Shadowfax Wines Victoria
Pendleton Estate Blend Olive Oil from Pendleton Estate, SA
Hot Smoked Altantic Salmon from Sapphire Coast Smoked Fish, NSW.
So it was pretty stiff competition. Each product had already won for the quality of their products but now each business was judged on a number of things including: environmental, social, sustainable profitiability and the human factor. Our premises were visited by two judges, Simon Marnie from the ABC and Scott Davenport from NSW Department of Primary Industries and we had to present to them how we met the above criteria. They then presented to a Woolworths buyer and Peter Doyle, the well known Australian Chef.
It was all pretty hairaising but it also highlighted to us how far we had come from our first days.
This culminated in a presentation night on the 26th August. John was interviewed by HG Nelson, who certainly didn't keep to the script and kept us all in stitches. However, the obvious highlight of the whole night was when we were announced as the winners. It was just like winning an Oscar. It was very exciting and we were very overwhelmed.
So the future is very bright for our yoghurt. We are having a bit of trouble keeping up with demand but we are just at the tail end of a capital expansion and we will be producing much larger quantities of the yoghurt come November.
Yoghurt - Grand Champion at 2008 Royal Easter Show
Our yoghurt was judged the best yoghurt and/or cultured milk product at the 2008 Cheese and Dairy Produce Show and beat the likes of Dairy Farmers, Jalna, Hastings Valley, King Island, Brancourts, Barambah and Attiki. We were extremely proud to receive this award and feel that all the hard work is really starting to pay off.
We started making our yoghurt in 2005 and now after months of experimentation feel that we really have a great product. We have some lovely new labels for our 500g products which you can see below. Our yoghurt is made using fresh milk and culture only. We do not add gelatine, cream or skim milk powder to thicken the yoghurt but we still manage to get a lovely thick creamy product which is 96% fat free. To sweeten our plain yoghurt we only add sugar not any artificial sweeteners of any kind. Most of our stockists carry our yoghurt but if they don't and you would like to try it, ask them to get it in for you to try. We also sell our yoghurt in 2kg and 10kg tubs to restaurants and cafes.
Our Grand Champion Natural Yoghurt is unsweetened and fantastic used in dips, curries and a million other cooking uses. I love it on my museli with peaches and prunes. Yum. We won a silver medal in 2007 and 2009 and in 2008 took out a gold as well as winning the Grand Champion Award. Not bad for a small producer.
Our plain yoghurt is naturally sweetened with sugar only. Fabulous in desserts or served with fruit. 2009 saw our Plain Yoghurt win a silver medal at the show for the first time. We always knew it was pretty good stuff. In 2010 we finally won a Gold medal for this deliciously creamy product.
Cream
Our cream has won silver medals at the 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 Royal Easter Shows. There was a gold medal awarded in 2008 for this first time since we have been competing and it went to South Coast Dairy whose products we process at our factory. Our cream has a delicious nutty flavour and is very thick. No sweeteners required here, just enjoy the fresh pure taste on all your favourite desserts. We also sell our cream in 2 litre bottles to restaurants and cafes. In 2010 Country Valley won a Gold medal for what we regard as the best cream on the market. The judges certainly got it right this year!
