The New Season Milk is here!!
Did you know that milk has a seasonal smell and taste? Country Valley sells their delicious milk and dairy products throughout Wollondilly, the Southern Highlands, Camden, the Illawarra, Sydney and now. They are used to getting lots of great feedback about their products but sometimes this changes. “We’ve received a few emails and comments from customers that the milk smells slightly tainted”, says John Fairley. ”But when we collect it from the customer and pour it into a glass it is fine.” With all the rain they have been getting the Fairleys now have lots of beautiful fresh, green pasture for their cows to eat. This has an affect on the product particularly when the cows have been on dry feed for such a long time and it seems that the smell of the bottled milk has been most affected. But when you pour the milk out of the bottle, where perhaps the smell is concentrated, the milk smells and tastes great. “We get used to our milk smelling and tasting a particular way but milk is surprisingly susceptible to feed and weather changes,” says John. “After a few weeks this will all settle down as the cows get used to the feed changes.” This is how things used to be. Our fresh products all tasted different depending on the season but with mass production and uniformity taking over, we have lost the uniqueness that fresh home grown produce used to have. With Country Valley you really are buying products that are farm fresh and this means that from time to time the milk will be different. So please don’t throw your milk away before you pour it into a glass and test it and if it stills doesn’t make the grade call or email Country Valley on 4677 2223 or enquiries@countryvalley.com.au.
ADDITIVES
Did you know that many big brands add 12% permeate to their milk and it is not on the label! Permeate is a by-product from the production of skim milk, a thin watery substance that acts as a cheap filler. Country Valley does not add permeate or for that matter anything else to its milk. You just get 100% milk and nothing else.
